Cheryl Stokes, a consultant mixologist for Barker’s, helped test trending flavours and cocktail combinations for the recently released beverage range. Who is Cheryl?
Cheryl’s career in the beverage industry was carved out at a young age, with her father working in the New Zealand liquor industry. She completed a National Diploma in Hospitality Management at Christchurch Polytechnic and headed to the U.K. on her O.E. working in various hospitality roles. She returned to New Zealand and took a part time position teaching bar, barista and restaurant service in the School of Food and Hospitality, CPIT, which progressed into a full time role.
Her passion for cocktails was sparked when asked to judge a cocktail competition at a CPIT Salon Culinaire in 2000. This led to judging opportunities around NZ and included Cointreau, Remy Martin, Beam Suntory, 42 Below South Island, Diplomatico and Bacardi Legacy brands.
She develops programmes and courses for the Restaurant, Wine and Bar section within the Department of Hospitality and Service Industries at Ara Institute of Technology. The opportunity to work with Barker’s on their new café range of beverages is an exciting challenge and allows creativity to develop flavours and drinks.
