A message from Nicky – August ’17

There’s so much to love about winter. For us in the south it’s the snow that is so welcomed for the ski slopes bringing many visitors to the region, the thought of a deliciously slow cooked leg of lamb accompanied by a wonderful glass of Central Otago pinot in front of the fire or purely time to recharge and snuggle up. The fact that spring is closing in on us is a welcomed thought.

While all this is happening our team is charging forward growing new relationships while taking existing ones to newer heights with new solution ideas, refining packaging options and spreading the word and growing our brand awareness. All exciting stuff.

Because we take pride in our products, packaging becomes so critical in ensuring our products reach you in great condition so we have scoured the world for the best solutions.

The result is a new packaging look for our famous Anathoth Farm Chef Series of products. These new thermic jars with protective barrier should go a long way to helping ensure the product inside remains fresher for longer.

The new packaging begins its entry onto the shelves in late August, early September.

Fruit Pastes

They burst onto the scene every year bringing us their autumnal magic and what better way to capture the fruit flavours of quince and feijoa than in fruit pastes to complement cheeseboards.

Many of us are familiar with the flavour and beautiful pinkish hues of quince paste but what about feijoa?  A beautiful combination of guava, pineapple, mint and lemon mixed into one, this fruit paste partners superbly with a soft, flowing Brie or delicately whipped ricotta. 

So we are delighted to add to our stable two new fruit pastes Quince and Feijoa and – oh boy – the Feijoa is delicious and just the thing to liven up your platter.


For those a little more adventurous, whip it through cream cheese when you next make a cheesecake, add a spoonful to your soft centred muffins or bring magic to a deep-dish apple pie with a splash of feijoa.  However you choose to use these fruit pastes we encourage you to be adventurous!  Call us for a free sample.

High Tea Resurgence

The reinvention of the High Tea is a welcomed indulgence for me and who better to lead this charge than Marcus Braun and the team at Continental Caterers in Canterbury. 

We welcome the recipe ideas and tips from him and how he incorporates some of our new fillings like the Passionfruit and Yuzu Hotsett® Crème into delicious and inspiring bite size nibbles. It’s just so exciting to see how the gorgeous old Monavale homestead has been restored and transformed after the earthquake into the beautiful setting it is today. A fabulous venue for a modern high tea.

A Fond Farewell to Gaye

After over 27 years pedalling Barker’s products in the lower North Island we say “Goodbye” to a memorable, loyal and beautiful lady.  Anyone who knows Gaye will be well aware of her deliciously bubbly personality and persuasive style… the ultimate sales and team person.

She has been a true Barker ambassador and even though we say ‘Farewell’ we know wherever Gaye goes she will still quietly fly the Barker’s flag for us. Thanks Gaye, for the tremendous job you have done during your time with Barker’s and best wishes to yourself and Dave as you enjoy the next part of your journey together.

Gaye’s replacement, Phil Field, is under no illusions of the big boots he has to fill and we are certain he will fill those with just as much success and enthusiasm as Gaye.  Welcome aboard Phil!

Gaye and PhilWell, that’s enough from me but before I close I wish to share one last secret: in the month of September we have a very exciting major launch happening.  Possibly the largest we have undertaken for many years.  For those in on the secret…they are telling us, about time! 

So, with the final touches being applied to the new products now…let’s toast to raising the bar on your drinks menu!
